TIMING
I live on the banks of the Methow River and guide my river in the fall and winter. Depending on season openings and ice, my season is approximately:
In June and July, I guide in Alaska in the Aleutians on a secret river with the best Chinook fishing in the world. Call me for details.
EQUIPMENT
Rods and Reels: purchasing fly equipment is very expensive; and frankly, most fisherman purchase equipment they will later change or upgrade. You are welcome to bring your own rods and reels; but , most of my customers wind up using my equipment as it is specifically designed for our style of fishing. There will be 3 single hand rods and 2 switch rods in the boat at all times. Plus , enough 2 handed rods to make you dizzy. If you are interested in making an investment in the best flyrod available, please see my custom Skagit Cannon Spey Rod here. [Note that the site is still under construction but a limited amount of information can be found at this link].
Lines: these need to be matched to the rod and method of fishing. If you are an experienced angler, by all means, bring your equipment. If you are not sure, use mine.
Waders: even though we usually fish from a raft, you will need waders or hip boots with rain pants….there is always a spare pair of waders at home, so no need to buy them. Bring em if you have em!
Rain Coat: it seldom rains on the Methow; but, don’t leave home without it.
Hat and sunglasses: the sun can be blazing! These two items are a must.
Gloves: fingerless gloves can keep your fly in the water. Heat packets will be provided. It is normally cold in the morning and warm in the afternoon.
Flies: if you have some favorites, bring them along. I love to look at other fisherman’s flies. Otherwise, don’t bother. I’ve got enough flies for everyone on the river.
Miscellaneous: if you got it for Christmas bring it; however, you won’t need it.
